A guide to one of Malaga's most charming villages

Nestled in the mountains that form the backdrop to the Costa del Sol, Mijas Pueblo is a picturesque white village that embodies the essence of Andalusia. With cobblestone streets, whitewashed buildings, and stunning panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, Mijas Pueblo is a must-visit destination for travellers seeking a taste of traditional Spanish culture and natural beauty. In this blog post, we'll guide you through some of the most enchanting things to do in Mijas Pueblo.

1. Stroll Through the Historic Old Town

Mijas Pueblo's old town is full of narrow, winding streets to explore. As you wander through the cobbled pathways, you'll discover small hidden plazas, charming boutiques, and colourful blue flower pots adorning every corner. Mijas Pueblo offers plenty of cultural activities all year round, with live music, concerts during the summertime, and free Flamenco in the plazas on Wednesdays at 12:00 in Plaza Virgen de la Peña and on Saturdays at the same time in Plaza de la Constitucion.

2. Art Galleries and Museums

Mijas Pueblo is home to several art galleries and museums that showcase its rich cultural heritage. The works of local and international artists are displayed in these spaces, making them perfect for art enthusiasts and history buffs.

3. Hike up to the Sierra de Mijas

Head to the mountains of Mijas to take in the incredible panoramic views of the Mediterranean coastline and the surrounding mountains. Mijas is the starting point for many stunning hikes that go as far as Benalmadena and Malaga on routes of various difficulties. You can find the best hiking routes from Mijas Pueblo here.

Depending on the time of your visit, you might be lucky enough to catch one of the village's vibrant festivals. The Feria de Mijas, a lively annual event in early September, is a highlight that features flamenco music, traditional costumes, amusement park rides and a colourful parade through the streets. During the summer months, plenty of free concerts are held in the auditorium, including Blues and Celtic Nights, and many bars have live music where you can enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace on balmy summer nights. The new addition of the La Cala Festival in La Cala de Mijas has brought a range of international artists to the area with an unforgettable three-day festival with performances from international rock and electronic artists.

5. Explore the La Muralla Park

If you're seeking a peaceful escape, head to La Muralla Park. This serene and beautifully landscaped park offers walking trails, a Japanese garden, and stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
